Week 11
Yeah so google docs seem useful. I haven't done anything I would call productive with them but they do come off as useful. Neat. Yeah........
Tag! oh I don't care who's it
I don't know all that much about tags. I use them on LibraryThing but that's about it. I hadn't ever played with Delicious before but I'm glad I did since I discovered Free Music Archive. Free music!!! My affair with Delicious will probably end there.

Pessimistically hopeful, optimistically doubtful: what week is this again?
I'm just not sure about all these social networking sites. I did get into it while in college so my experience with them is mostly unnecessary drama caused by who is friends with who and "what's up with what that $%#&* said on your wall?!?!?" type of experiences. So it's hard for me to think of them being useful as tools for professional life.
I'd like to think that the library could put some of this stuff to use. Then again I'm not sure who would actually use it and how. How many people are going to post that they're going to whatever event at the library? But who knows it could happen and might actually be useful.

lvl 43 scrapper LFT: week 8 gaming
No stranger to gaming here. Gaming in the library is not a bad thing i think, keeps us relevant. I mean with weirdness like Second Life a social networking / MMO that i think could be the death of other social networking sites in the future? Who knows how people will be communicating in even just a few years from now. We may be sticking holographic messages in our droids asking Obi Wan for help.....or maybe not.
Anyway my MMORPG of choice, City of Heroes, just added a very cool update/feature that is very Web 2.0. Issue 14 which went live yesterday allows players to change the content of the game. You can write your own missions design your own bad guys write the dialog everything. Then other players can try it out and rate it. So awesome. It makes the game more interesting a lot less stagnant and repetitive which tends to happen with MMOs (World of Warcraft)
OK I'm done geeking out now

Captain's Blog Stardate 9083853, week 6
I have had a Flickr account for a few years. I signed up in college to use it for a class project and it was really helpful. The project involved volunteering and we had to document what we had done and somehow include pictures, so uploading pics to Flickr and sending the link to my Professor was way easier than any of my other options. I worked with Tricycle Gardens an organization that helps build community gardens in and around Richmond. These are a couple of before and after pics of one garden I helped build.

I heart Free Library of Philadelphia
So after reading about podcasts I was looking around at other library systems to see if and how they use podcasting. I didn't find too much but maybe I wasn't using the correct search methods I don't know. Anyway I found that the Philadelphia library uses them for guest speakers or at least for Joe Biden when he was there to talk about his book. Since I couldn't come up with any ways that we could use podcasts other than well maybe we could do book reviews of books that are popular with our patrons? lame. Since that’s all I could come up with I was impressed by their use of podcasting, pretty cool.
Check it out
But OMG the high tech goodie they have that would be sooo lovely to have here? Online payment of fines!!!!!
We gotta get this
Maybe this is not as amazing as I think it is maybe other systems use this and everyone already knows all about this option. Oh well I didn't and I'm psyched we should totally get it.
So that's why
I heart Free Library of Philadelphia
BTW does anyone know the HTML for renaming links Google is not working for me on this
Hey look I did it! Thanks for all the help!

Fresh Doughnuts!!! week 4
So twitter......I have no personal interest in it , maybe one day it may become something I use for work because of work? But for now being on twitter is being too connected for me. I do think it's useful way to drive traffic to blogs that's about the only actually useful thing it seems to do. I did think of one way i might be inclined to join twitter. If you could have your local Krispy Kreme on twitter for the purpose of sending a twit? tweet? when they had fresh doughnuts ready, I'd be into that.

This RSS Mess week 3
So feeds are kind neat. I thought I wasn't going to think much of them but I like it. I don't know how much I'll use it. I did set up a Bloglines account and so far it seems pretty handy. Although,I still like actually going to the sites instead of just using the reader but this way it's all in one place less clicking.
I can see how this would be useful for libraries, especially big systems that have a lot going on. I like the way the NY library had their RSS page set up.

Captain's Blog Stardate: Week Two.........
Ok here's my blog. YAY ! I've never been interested in blogging. Probably because I don't have much to say that seems blog worthy. I guess I could lie to make it interesting, but I won't. I like the idea that they can be used in a context other than online journal. Otherwise, it seems a little like keeping a diary and then leaving it open on the coffee table. Anyway it should be fun. (^_^)
